WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded  $102,600 to Kent State University and $234,000 to Akron-Canton Regional Airport Authority to create Sustainability Master Plans for their airports.

“This is great news for Summit County,” Brown said. “These improvements will reduce the environmental impact and help improve the economic benefits of the Kent State University Airport and the Akron-Canton Regional Airport. These federal dollars will go a long way in sustaining safe travel in and out of the airports for area residents and businesses.”

These competitive federal grants will be used to create airport sustainability plans, establishing sustainability goals and tracking strategies.  The goals of this initiative are to reduce the environmental impact, realize economic benefits, and improve the community relations of the airports.  The Kent State University Airport is a general aviation airport associated with Kent.  The Akron-Canton Regional Airport is a small-hub primary airport associated with Akron.
