WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) issued the following statement upon Senate passage of a budget resolution:

“Today, Senate Republicans chose to give corporations and millionaires tax breaks and kickbacks at the cost of American middle class families and seniors. We know that providing tax breaks for big corporations is a losing strategy for Americans who work hard but struggle each day to put food on the table, save for retirement, and send their kids to college. Despite years of economic growth and job creation, the Republican budget guts investments that we need to boost our economy. And, despite the fact that five years after passage of the health law more than 16.4 million American adults have gained insurance, the proposed budget would repeal the coverage provisions of the law. This budget also makes major cuts to our Medicare program that will leave seniors who’ve earned these benefits left paying more out-of-pocket to stay healthy.

“What Ohioans need is a budget that invests in middle-class jobs and manufacturing, prioritizes public health and research, and supports working Americans as they provide for their families. It’s disappointing to watch a majority of this body vote to give corporations a hand up while leaving hard-working middle class Americans to fend for themselves.”
