WASHINGTON, D.C. –   On the day of a joint Department of Defense, Department of State, and U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) mission, today U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) thanked Air Force Reservists from the 910th Airlift Wing’s 76th Aerial Port Squadron (APS) for their role in preparing medical supplies for delivery as part of humanitarian airlift.

The APS prepared 38,000 pounds of medical equipment – including hospital beds, mattresses, and a utility vehicle to transport the equipment – for delivery to Honduras via a KC-10 aircraft. The aircraft will pick up the equipment at Youngstown Air Reserve Station (YARS) today.

“The Youngstown Air Reserve Station is a key part of Ohio’s Reserve presence,” said Brown. “The Reservist at YARS are not only supporting our national security, but are also taking part in humanitarian efforts to aid other countries that are in need. I’m so pleased to see our men and women in the Reserve use their cargo skills to help others. The medical equipment they helped prepare will now benefit those who need it most.”

The Reservists prepared the equipment during their February Unit Training Assembly. The equipment was collected by MedWish International in Cleveland, Ohio.

This humanitarian airlift was coordinated through the Denton Program. Jointly administered by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Department of State, and the Department of Defense, the Denton Program allows private U.S. citizens or organizations to transport humanitarian goods via available space on U.S. military planes.
