WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced $600,000 in new federal funds to support environmental brownfield site assessments in Summit County. The funds were awarded to the Northeast Ohio Four County Regional Planning and Development Organization by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Fiscal Year 2014 Brownfields Assessment, Revolving Loan Fund, and Cleanup (ARC) program.

“Ohio’s brownfield sites can be opportunities for redevelopment and new growth,” Brown said. “These funds will help support clean-up and decontamination efforts critical to the safety and economic success of Summit County.”

The EPA’s Brownfields ARC program funds the assessment and cleanup of the contaminated land of former industrial and commercial properties. This redevelopment creates jobs and protects Ohioans’ health and the environment.
