WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that the U.S. Department of Education has awarded $231,103 to Stark State College in North Canton for the first year of a five-year TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program grant. The SSS program is designed to increase retention and graduation rates of low-income, first-generation, and disabled college students.
“Education is the key to providing all Ohioans the opportunity for success,” Brown said. “But there are many students that could benefit from additional academic tutoring and help navigating financial aid and scholarships. This funding will help ensure that all students have access to the supportive services they need to succeed in college.”
Stark State College will use this funding to provide services, including career and academic counseling, for 160 low-income and first generation students.
