WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that the U.S. Department of Education has awarded $315,141 to Ohio University in Athens for the first year of a five-year TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program grant. The SSS program is designed to increase retention and graduation rates of low-income, first-generation, and disabled college students.

“Education is the key to providing all Ohioans the opportunity for success,” Brown said. “But there are many students that could benefit from additional academic tutoring and help navigating financial aid and scholarships. This funding will help ensure that all students have access to the supportive services they need to succeed in college.”

Ohio University will use this funding to provide academic support services, including financial aid advising and academic tutoring, for 275 low-income and first generation students.
