WASHINGTON, D.C. – New federal resources have been awarded to a fire department in Wood County. U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that City of Northwood Fire Department has been awarded $32,470 for Fire Prevention by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Fire Prevention & Safety (FP&S) program. The FS&P program is an initiative of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program.

“Firefighters put their lives on the line each day to keep our communities safe,” Brown said. “These new federal resources will help ensure that Northwood’s skilled responders have the resources they need to safely do their jobs.”

City of Northwood Fire Department received this funding as part of the round two competitive Fiscal Year 2013 FP&S announcements.

The AFG’s Fire Prevention & Safety initiative helps firefighters and other first responders improve their ability to protect the public and themselves from fire and fire-related hazards. Programs funded in the Fire Prevention category include general education/awareness; code enforcement/awareness; fire and arson investigation; and national, state or regional programs and studies.
