WASHINGTON D.C. – A Miami County community will benefit from new federal resources to redevelop contaminated land, create jobs, and protect Ohioans’ health. U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that the City of Piqua has been awarded funding to clean up Ohio brownfields by the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Brownfields Assessment, Cleanup, and Revolving Loan Fund Grant program.

“Ohio’s brownfield sites can be opportunities for redevelopment and new growth,” Brown said. “These funds will help support clean-up and decontamination efforts critical for the safety and economic success of Piqua.”

The City of Piqua will receive $200,000 for hazardous substances and petroleum site assessments.

Cleanup grants will fund cleanup activities at brownfield sites that have been contaminated by petroleum and hazardous substances, pollutants, or contaminants. According to the EPA, recipients of assessment grants can use the funds to inventory, characterize, assess, and conduct planning related to brownfield sites.
