WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) met with Tallmadge residents Dr. Lee Fredrickson and Mary Fredrickson when they attended Brown’s weekly coffee with constituents during a visit to Washington, D.C. for the American College of Physicians (ACP) Leadership Day. The ACP advocates for physicians and their patients on several issues including ending the shortage of primary care physicians and ensuring physicians can continue to treat Medicaid patients.

“It was an honor to meet with doctors and medical school students who have dedicated their careers to ensuring the health of Ohioans,” said Brown. “The American College of Physicians’ advocacy is critical for patients throughout the state.”

Brown continues to work to ensure all Ohioans have access to the care they need. The ACP endorsed Brown’s Ensuring Access to Primary Care for Women & Children Act – legislation that would extend an expired provision of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) that helped expand families’ access to health care services by aligning the payments that primary care physicians receive through Medicaid with Medicare’s higher payments. Because Medicaid provides coverage for millions of families, as well as access to critical health services for women, this ACA provision played an important role in meeting the increased demand for primary care.
