WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) met this week with representatives from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF), including Shaker Heights residents Cari Kochheiser-McCabe and Colin McCabe. The CFF representatives met with Brown during his weekly constituent coffee and discussed a bill supported by Brown to ensure access to clinical trials for those who receive benefits from Medicaid and Social Security.

“It was good to meet with Ohioans who are dedicated to improving the lives of individuals who are suffering from cystic fibrosis,” said Brown. “We must find a cure for this life-threatening disease, which is why supporting robust funding for medical research and encouraging clinical trials is so important.”

Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is seeking a cure for cystic fibrosis, and aims to give individuals with the disease the opportunity to lead full, productive lives by funding research, drug development, and treatment.

CFF supports legislation that Brown helped introduce, the Ensuring Access to Clinical Trials Act of 2015, which would give patients access to clinical trials without fear of losing Medicaid or Social Security benefits.
