WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) met this week with Richard “Hart” Main, a graduate of New Philadelphia High School and a top five finalist for this year’s National Federation of Independent Business’s (NFIB) Young Entrepreneur of the Year award. Main founded Man Cans, a candle company that donates 75 cents per sale to soup kitchens in Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. Main attended Brown’s weekly coffee with constituents while in Washington D.C. to attend a ceremony honoring the top five 2015 NFIB finalists.  He was joined by his parents Craig and Amy Main.

“Hart is an example of the young entrepreneurial talent in Ohio,” said Brown. “His business is not only creative, but it also gives back to the community and employs Ohioans. He deserves this award for his contribution to our state.”

Main’s company produces scented candles out of old soup cans. The candles are manufactured by Ohio workers in Lisbon, Ohio. The company has donated more than $100,000 to soup kitchens.

The NFIB’s Young Entrepreneur Awards is a scholarship program that encourages entrepreneurial talents among high school students.
