WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced $1,500,000 has been awarded to the Village of Carey by the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) to build a new electrical substation. The current system is at capacity and cannot reliably meet the demand from local industry. This construction will allow for manufacturing expansion and is expected to create 50 jobs and leverage $18 million in private investment. The total project cost is $3,880,500.

“This is great news for manufacturing in Wyandot County,” Brown said. “This federal investment in the area’s infrastructure will lead to more reliable service and more efficient operations for local manufacturers. Projects like this help boost the economy and make the region more competitive.”

Brown has been working to promote economic development across Ohio by supporting the growth of manufacturing. His bipartisan manufacturing jobs legislation –which passed the House of Representatives last week – would bring together industry, universities and community colleges, federal agencies, and all levels of government, to accelerate manufacturing innovation in technologies with commercial applications. The Revitalize American Manufacturing and Innovation Act (RAMI) would create thousands of high-paying, high-tech manufacturing jobs while enhancing the United States’ role as the world’s leader in advanced manufacturing.
