WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) has awarded $714,861 to Case Western Reserve University, the City of Cleveland, public broadcasting organization Ideastream, and nonprofit broadband company OneCommunity. This public-private partnership will use these funds to install three miles of high-speed, 100 gigabit broadband network in Cleveland’s Health-Tech Corridor. This project will allow for industrial expansion and is expected to create 115 jobs and leverage $35 million in private investment. The total project cost is $1,021,230.

“This high-speed internet network is great news for Cleveland,” Brown said. “This federal investment in the area’s infrastructure will lead to more reliable service and more efficient operations for local businesses. Projects like this help boost the economy and make the region more competitive.”

Brown has been working to promote economic development across Ohio by supporting public-private partnerships like this one. His bipartisan manufacturing jobs legislation – which passed the House of Representatives last week – would bring together industry, universities and community colleges, federal agencies, and all levels of government, to accelerate manufacturing innovation in technologies with commercial applications. TheRevitalize American Manufacturing and Innovation Act (RAMI) would create thousands of high-paying, high-tech manufacturing jobs while enhancing the United States’ role as the world’s leader in advanced manufacturing.
