Sen. Brown & United States Trade Representative Ron Kirk Tour ArcelorMittal Cleveland

Sen. Brown brought the President’s top trade advisor, United States Trade Representative Ron Kirk, to local steelmaker ArcelorMittal Cleveland to discuss how job creation can be promoted through  strong trade law enforcement that ensures a level playing field for American businesses. Sen. Brown and Amb. Kirk discussed how trade law enforcement defends Ohio manufacturers from unfair foreign competition and helps create and preserve jobs in Ohio and across the country.


Brown Discusses New Bill Aimed at Preventing 'Senior Scams' at Keybank Financial Education Workshop for Seniors

At a workshop focused on educating Ohio seniors about fraud and identity theft, Sen. Brown discussed a new bill aimed at preventing financial scams carried out on senior citizens. The legislation, known as the Senior Financial Empowerment Act, would help protect Ohio seniors from financial fraud by cracking down on mail, telemarketing, and Internet fraud aimed at seniors and the elderly. The bill would also help provide additional educational resources to seniors so that they can protect themselves from these types of scams.


Sen. Brown Launches 'Grown in Ohio' Listening Tour in Chesterland

Sen. Brown launched his ‘Grown in Ohio’ listening tour in Chesterland at the Patterson Fruit Farm. Sen. Brown will be holding a number of these listening sessions across Ohio in the coming months to get the input of Ohio farmers before the Senate considers the 2012 Farm Bill.

Sen. Brown Calls on Canadian Ambassador to Crack Down on Asian Carp Smuggling

Following several recent news reports of Asian Carp smuggling from the southern United States to Canada, Sen. Brown held a news conference to call on the Canadian Ambassador to the United States, Gary Doer, to crack down on illegal Asian Carp trafficking that threatens the Lake Erie ecosystem and poses a grave threat to Ohio’s fishing, boating and recreation industries. 


Sen. Brown Swears-In Benita Pearson as Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio

Sen. Brown swore-in the newest judge on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, Judge Benita Y. Pearson, at a ceremony in Youngstown. Judge Pearson is the first African-American woman to serve as Federal District Judge in Ohio.


Sen. Brown joins obstetricians and new mother to push for affordable medications

Starting this month, the price of a critical drug used to prevent pregnant women from delivering premature babies increased from $10-20 per dose to $1,500 per dose. Sen. Brown joined Dr. Brian Mercer and Dr. Jennifer Bailit of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at MetroHealth, and a new mother, Jillian Burnett, to call on KV Pharmaceutical to reverse course on the outrageous price increases of a drug to prevent preterm pregnancy.



Driving Down Costs And Improving Patient Care

Sen. Brown joined U.S. Health &Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and leaders from the Solutions for Patient Safety Initiative at Nationwide Children’s Hospital to highlight cost savings and improved patient care through the initiative.


Job Growth Roundtable With Flexible Electronics Companies in Kent

Sen. Brown held a roundtable discussion with representatives from NorTech, Kent Displays, and other flexible electronics cluster stakeholders at Kent Displays to discuss clusters-based job growth and the flexible electronics sector.

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, U.S. Rep. Betty Sutton, and Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic held a meeting at Dave’s Supermarket in downtown Akron to outline how the House Republican budget would have a drastic effect on job-creating economic development initiatives in Ohio communities.
