Sen. Brown discusses efforts to prevent mass layoffs of Teachers and First Responders
Sen. Brown was part of a press conference today to discuss efforts to prevent mass layoffs of tens of thousands of teachers and first responders across the nation. Sen. Brown and other Democrats are fighting to ensure that states are able to keep teachers in our classrooms, police officers on the beat and firefighters on call.

Sen. Brown Visits Leading Energy Materials Manufacturer In Parma
Sen. Brown visited the Parma plant of GrafTech International, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of graphite and carbon-based products. Brown met with employees at GrafTech and toured the company’s laboratory.

Energy Bill Press Conference 07-29-10
As the Senate takes up critical legislation that would hold Big Oil accountable and create jobs in Ohio, Sen. Brown highlighted key provisions of the bill at a news conference. The Clean Energy Jobs and Oil Accountability Act, introduced in the Senate yesterday, would ensure that BP pays the full costs of damages; invest in Home Star, a bipartisan energy efficiency program that lowers consumers' energy costs and creates jobs; and reduce our dependence on oil by making investments in vehicles that run on electricity and natural gas.

Sen. Brown Visits Fisher-Titus Medical Center
Sen. Brown visited Fisher-Titus Medical Center (FTMC) in Norwalk. Fisher-Titus recently became one of the first all-digital ("smart") hospitals in the country. Each patient at Fisher-Titus will have a single, integrated electronic medical record that can be immediately accessed by healthcare providers.

Ohio Green Renewable Opportunities for Workers (GROWs) Event in Rossford
This project utilizes 19 existing industry training centers to provide green skills training to dislocated and incumbent workers in Ohio, including 44 counties impacted by automotive-related restructuring. The project focuses on a registered apprenticeship model and will work in concert with local Jobs and Family Services offices to transition participants who are dislocated from jobs in the auto industry to explore green careers. The training includes a wind turbine and photovoltaic installation program.

Sen. Brown, Governor Strickland Mark Re-Opening of Hugo Boss by Celebrating
Sen. Brown and Governor Strickland joined Hugo Boss workers to celebrate the ‘first suit off the line’ at the Hugo Boss Plant in Brooklyn on July 19th. Nearly 200 workers are back on the job at the only U.S. suit manufacturing facility of the German company. When Brown learned in Dec. 2009 that the plant may close, he contacted top executives at Hugo Boss and Permira Advisors and scheduled a hearing of the U.S. Senate Banking Subcommittee on Economic Policy to examine the Hugo Boss situation and the role of private equity firms that acquire manufacturing facilities.

Sen. Brown Joined NASA Administrator Bolden at NASA Glenn Research Center
Sen. Brown and NASA Administrator Charles Bolden visited the Glenn Research Center (GRC) in Cleveland to discuss new missions and activities slated for GRC under the President's budget proposal and how this new investment would affect Northeast Ohio companies that contract with NASA.

Sen. Brown was in the Cincinnati area on July 7th for a number of events, including a meeting with GE Aviation and General Aviation Manufacturers Association members; and an event with the Reds to promote Joey Votto as a National League All-Star candidate.

Sen. Brown at the V&M Star Groundbreaking
Sen. Brown joined local elected officials, community leaders, and workers for the groundbreaking on a $650 million expansion of the V&M Star operation. V&M's construction of a state-of-the-art pipe mill will generate 400 construction jobs in the next year and 350 permanent jobs. Full pipe mill operations are anticipated in late 2012.
