Sen. Brown Joins Commerce Secretary in Columbus to Discuss Efforts to Boost Ohio Exports
Less than one percent of the nation's nearly 26 million small businesses export their products and these 240,000 businesses account for only 29 percent of the United States' export volume - a number that that has decreased in the last 10 years. Sen. Brown joined Commerce Sec. Gary Locke in Columbus to hold a forum at Cardinal Health on a National Export Initiative aimed at expanding exports among Ohio small businesses.

Sen. Brown, Ohio Transit Workers Unite on Capitol Hill to Save Jobs, Avoid Fare Increases, Preserve Service
Sen. Brown joined Rep. Russ Carnahan (D-MO) and transit workers from Ohio and across the country to outline their legislation that would save transit jobs, prevent fare increases, and preserve mass transit service. The bill would give transit agencies increased flexibility to use federal funds for operating assistance as well as capital investments for operating costs- helping to prevent layoffs and preserve access to affordable transit service.

 Sen. Brown Receives Award from National Guard Association in Columbus
Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) received the Major General Charles Dick Award for Legislative Excellence from the Ohio National Guard Association in Columbus. Brown discussed his efforts to ensure that the Ohio National Guard has superior equipment and facilities for training and that all Guards members have increased benefits and improved health care.

Sen. Brown Joins Health Care Advocates at Rally For Comprehensive Health Reform
U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown spoke before a health reform rally today that welcomed Melanie’s Marchers to the U.S. Capitol. The participants in this walk traveled 135 miles to Washington, DC to highlight the urgent need for comprehensive health care reform. The march is named for Melanie Shouse, who passed away January 30th after a long battle with breast cancer.

Sen. Brown Visits Brooklyn Hugo Boss Plant
Sen. Brown met with workers and union leaders at the Hugo Boss plant in Brooklyn. The site is home to the only U.S. manufacturing facility of the German company, which announced it would shutter operations at the Brooklyn facility in April 2010. Brown discussed the future of the plant and outlined ways to support the Northeast Ohio economy during this time.


International Trade Seminar in Cincinnati
Sen. Brown convened nearly 100 Ohio businesses leaders to discuss how an aggressive export strategy can grow new jobs and economic development. At the year’s first international trade seminar hosted by Export-Import Bank Chairman Fred Hochberg, Brown outlined how expanding export markets could be a key way to create jobs and revitalize Ohio manufacturing.
