Senator Brown met with over 40 fire fighters from around Ohio with the International Association of Fire Fighters as part of the Alfred K. Whitehead Legislative Conference.
On Monday March 10th, Senator Brown attended a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening of Norfolk Southern’s Rickenbacker Intermodal terminal. The event was also attended by Governor Ted Strickland, Congressman Dave Hobson, and a host of state and local elected officials. The public-private partnership between Norfolk Southern and the Columbus Regional Airport Authority is expected to make Ohio one of the prime logistics locations in the nation. This venture is expected to add 20,000 new jobs to region over the next 30 years.
United States Senator Sherrod Brown, and the Senate Agricultural Committee Chair, Tom Harkin, jointly hosted a farm summit at OSU’s 4-H Center. Ohio State University President Gordon Gee welcomed everyone, and the Dean of the Agriculture Department, Dr. Bobby Moser, was also a part of the event that included representatives from organizations such as the Ohio Soy Bean Council and the Ohio Corn Growers Association. While the main topic was the Farm Bill, many attendees had the opportunity to ask specific questions related to the agricultural industry.

The press conference was held at the Engineer’s Club of Dayton, built in 1918 as a place where the engineers and other scientists of the Dayton area could meet and share ideas. Orville Wright gave a speech at the opening of the building. Senator Brown spoke about the need to create a “comprehensive energy policy to reduce dependence on foreign oil and expand alternative energy” while at the same time creating more jobs in Ohio.
