Teamsters Rally to Protect Pensions

Standing with Teamsters from Ohio and across the country, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today rallied against proposed cuts to the Central States Pension Plan that would impact more than 47,000 Ohioans. Under the Multiemployer Pension Reform Act (MPRA), their benefits could be cut by as much as 70 percent. Brown is putting pressure on the U.S. Treasury Department – which oversees implementation of MPRA – to reject the proposed cuts.

Finance Committee Hearing on Multiemployer Pension Plans

Sen. Brown renewed his call to protect the hard-earned pensions of retired Ohio coal miners during a hearing of the Senate Finance Committee on multiemployer pension plans.

United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) President Cecil Roberts testified about the devastating impact pension cuts could have on retired miners and their families. Mrs. Rita Lewis of West Chester also testified at the hearing to honor her late husband, Butch Lewis. Mr. Lewis worked as a trucker for 40 years and led the Southwest Retirees Pension Committee’s fight against the cuts authorized under Multiemployer Pension Reform Act (MPRA).

Screening of 'The Big Short'

Sen. Brown co-sponsored a screening of "The Big Short" on Capitol Hill with Sens. Jack Reed (D-RI), Johnny Isakson (R-GA), and Roger Wicker (R-MS). The movie's director, Adam McKay, also spoke at the screening.
