Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, says some federal funds are on the way to central Ohio to aid a volunteer tax preparation service targeted at helping lower income taxpayers.

A federal matching grant of $86,000 has been awarded to United Way of Central Ohio by the Internal Revenue Service, money that will support the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, Brown's office said in a release.

“This is great news for families and individuals who use volunteer tax preparers at United Way of Central Ohio,” said Brown.
