Urges agriculture secretary Vilsack to release cover crops money

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, an Ohio Democrat, and two of his colleagues are asking Thomas Vilsack, President Obama's secretary of agricultural, to take immediate action to deal with harmful algal blooms in Lake Erie.

Brown is asking Vilsack to develop a comprehensive strategy to aid efforts to deal with problems in the western basin of Lake Erie, and asked Vilsack to release additional funding to persuade farmers to plant cover crops that will reduce the effects of rainfall runoff.
