Many of them work long, hard hours, and many times have to put up with bad attitudes, insults and sometimes abuse. They are waiters, waitresses, bartenders and other service industry employees who pay their bills through tips.
“Tips belong to the workers who earn them,” said Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-OH, during a telephone press conference this week. “Most of us give tips because we expect the tips to go to the workers whom we hand them to, whether it’s in a hotel with maid service, whether it’s in a diner where we meet the person who is taking care of us.
“We need laws that reflect that, we need laws that reward work. It’s really pretty simple, it’s the American way,” Brown said.
