Sen. Sherrod Brown is urging President Barack Obama to enact a "National Call to Service" to aid Gulf oil-cleanup efforts.

The Ohioan and two other Democratic senators - Sens. Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island and Bob Casey of Pennsylvania - told Obama in a letter last week that the goal would be to have the Corporation for National and Community Service orchestrate an effort to help the cleanup in the Gulf Coast region by injecting resources from local businesses, coupled with the labor of young volunteers.
