U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced Wednesday that he is continuing to fight for more than $137 million in direct funding to continue cleanup efforts at the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Piketon.
“This additional funding will continue to help clean up the Piketon site in order to once again make it an economic engine for southern Ohio,” Brown said. “Additionally we help stabilize the American Centrifuge Plant to ensure continued research and development on new enrichment technologies.”
The plant employs more than 2,200 people. The funding was included as part of the FY 14 omnibus appropriations bill expected to pass this week.
