ASHLAND — Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, brought good news to the Ashland area on Friday.

“I spoke with David Singer, the CEO of Lance, Inc. (on Thursday) night,” Brown said at the Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce’s First Friday luncheon. “I wanted to bring any good news here that I could. He is very excited about this community.”

Workers at Archway Cookies were displaced Oct. 3 when the company filed for bankruptcy. Questions remain involving compensation and insurance due those 278 employees who lost their jobs.

Lance, Inc. is bidding to buy the company and could rehire Archway workers. Brown said Singer is not giving any numbers on jobs yet, but said there will be a meeting with employees Tuesday at Ashland High School.
