Brown offering bill to block price hikes for drugs

SANDUSKY — U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, announced Wednesday that he's introducing a bill to protect Americans from big spikes in prescription drug prices.

Brown told reporters in a telephone conference call that his "Stop Price Gouging Act," co-authored by U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., would (1) required drug companies to report drug price increases and justify the hikes and (2) penalize companies that engage in "unjustified" price increases. Government officials would use a formula in deciding whether the price hikes are unjustified, Brown said.
