Sen. Sherrod Brown told university presidents from Ohio that House Republican efforts to reduce federal spending on Pell Grants “makes no sense to me and no sense to our future.’’
In a speech in Washington,

Brown, D-Ohio, vowed in his speech today that the Senate would “restore’’ the GOP cuts in the program which provides money for low-income people to attend college. The House, in its spending measure for the rest of this fiscal year, wants to slice nearly $1 billion from Pell Grants.

Brown did acknowledge that "it's an era of limits,'' a reference to the $1.5 trillion budget deficit for the current federal spending year.
