WASHINGTON D.C. — U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) unveiled Wednesday that he is co-sponsoring the Fair Minimum Age Act, a bill that could give tipped employees at minimum wage a significant increase in 2014.

Brown held a news teleconference Wednesday to both encourage support for the proposal and in anticipation of the national “Tipped Minimum Wage Day of Action,” which is today. Along with Brown, the proposal is co-sponsored by 16 other senators.

“Every year, millions of Americans living on a tipped wage are working hard and taking responsibility, but are lucky just to get by,” Brown said. “Earning a base of $2.13 per hour, even with tips, isn’t very much-not when you need to put food on the table, fill your gas tank, send your children to school and provide a safe place for them to live.”
