LIMA — Ohio senior citizens could lose $15 million in home heating assistance money if a U.S. House of Representatives proposal comes to fruition, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown said Wednesday.

Local counties would take hits ranging from $148,984 in Allen County to $36,578 in Van Wert County.

Brown spoke out during his weekly media conference call against a proposed plan in the House that would mean Ohio would receive less home heating assistance money than under a Senate proposal.

Bills in the House and Senate both contain similar funding levels for Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, but the House version would make allocation changes that redirects funds toward warm-weather states, Brown said.
