Representatives Tim Ryan and Marcia Fudge and Senator Sherrod Brown are demanding answers from the Bureau of Prisons regarding the coronavirus situation at FCI Elkton.
The three lawmakers penned a letter to BOP Director Michael Carvajal asking for answers and urging them to increase their efforts to protect those at the facility.
The lawmakers say the BOP failed to protect the inmates at the facility until it was compelled to due to a court order. They say the agency has still been slow to make reforms to protect those at FCI Elkton despite the court order.
Recent court filings say the BOP reported nine inmate deaths at the facility with 446 inmates and seven staff members with active coronavirus cases.
