JACKSON - The General Motors Corp. Lordstown Complex is expected to start building the brand-new Chevrolet Cruze April 10 with two shifts of 1,000 workers each, a union leader said Monday.

Jim Graham, president of United Auto Workers Local 1112 at the Lordstown East assembly plant, said it's possible the assembly plant could get back to the three shifts it had last summer before the economic recession killed auto sales, including the Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac G5s the complex currently builds.

That, plus comments from an Ohio senator who said the Cruze is on schedule for the Lordstown Complex, gave a few rays of light in an otherwise grim meeting at the UAW Local 1112 union hall.
