WASHINGTON, (WKEF)-- Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown (D) chaired the first Senate meeting to specifically discuss SSI in nearly 23 years, "It's time to bring SSI into the 21st Century." The Tuesday meeting of the Senate Finance Subcommittee on Social Security, Pensions and Family Policy discussed the need to update Supplemental Security Income. Brown's office said the program's benefit levels and eligibility rules haven't received an update since he 1980's, some parts of the program haven't been updated since it started in 1972.
