Additional safety standards increase costs

Local fire chiefs say anything that can be done to save lives in their profession is important, but they worry about the cost of complying with the hundreds of existing safety standards.

“When you look at the overall picture, why wouldn’t a fire department, city or village want its firefighters to have the most safety features and follow the strictest guidelines?” Wapakoneta Fire Chief  Kendall Krites said. “We already follow a majority of the guidelines, but for those departments that can’t follow all of the hundreds recommended, it comes down to dollars.”
