Family food assistance available even when school year ends

Cleveland Plain Dealer

Washington -- Thousands of children who rely on free or reduced-price lunch programs in their schools can still get meals in the summer through a network of school and community sites.

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown and Lisa Hamler-Fugitt, executive director of the Ohio Association of Foodbanks, today advised families to visit the Ohio Department of Education website, which has an interactive map that lists more than 1,200 schools, recreation centers, libraries, churches and other nonprofit sites in Ohio providing meals this summer.   Brown also has a county-by-county list that can be downloaded on his Senate website.  The information can also be obtained by calling the National Hunger Hotline at 1-866-3-HUNGRY or 1-877-8-HAMBRE, Brown said.
