A $30 million federal grant has been awarded to a Connecticut company to install 700 miles of fiber optic cable in Hancock and 27 other counties.

ComNet, a manufacturer of fiber optic and ethernet communication products in Danbury, Conn., will coordinate installation of the fiber, said State Board of Regents Press Secretary Rob Evans. Evans and others did not know when the fiber will be installed.
