PORT CLINTON -- Oak Harbor's village administrator had some good news for the first council meeting of the year.

Robert Pauley is leaving today for Washington, D.C., along with Oak Harbor High School student Kasey Peterson and her mother, Sherry Peterson, and WSOS community development specialist Kerrie Carte.

"We are meeting with the president on Thursday and having lunch at the White House," Pauley said.

The four are going to Washington to participate in the White House Summer Jobs Plus Summit.

Pauley said several young people worked for the village during the past two summers. Kasey Peterson worked in the mayor's office, and was nominated to take part in the conference.

She was asked to represent Ohio at the conference because of her participation in the Workforce Investment Act.

According to a press release from Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, the conference will connect business, nonprofit organizations and government personnel to help young people seeking summer employment.
