WASHINGTON, D.C. – Critical funds to continue cleanup and prevent layoffs at the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Piketon were secured Thursday night.
The funds are on top of the more than one billion dollars in federal funding that has already been secured for cleanup and redevelopment of the site. Nearly 2,200 jobs are related to cleanup efforts.
U.S. Congressman Brad Wenstrup (R-OH-2nd District) stated that the cleanup efforts are now going to be funded through the middle of December with the hopes of getting more funding secured before that December deadline.
“I’m relieved that we were able to secure this funding. However, we still face an uphill battle and I’m going to keep fighting,” he said.
