Miamisburg and Clearcreek fire departments are two of only eight in southwest Ohio awarded federal grants from a total of $946,435 by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters program.
Miamisburg Fire Department received $53,225 and Clearcreek Fire District won $92,570, said U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, who announced the awards Feb. 2.
Miamisburg’s local match for the grant was $2,081, while Clearcreek’s was $10,285. Clearcreek also provides fire service for Springboro. The local match amounts are determined per a jurisdiction’s population.
“Our first responders put their lives on the line every day across Ohio,” Brown said. “These funds ensure that firefighters in southwest Ohio have the resources and equipment they need to perform their jobs safely.”
Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, said the grants will “undoubtedly help our local fire departments obtain the tools they need to safely protect Ohio families.”
