LORAIN — U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown told a crowd gathered for the Lorain County Board of Mental Health’s annual meeting on Monday that health coverage in the United States needs to be reformed.
Brown, D-Avon, said there are 45 million Americans without insurance and another 20 million who are underinsured.
Brown said he is hopeful that President Barack Obama’s efforts to reform the system will result in every American having access to some sort of health care coverage.
The insurance companies, he said, work hard to make money. And while Brown said he doesn’t fault them for that, it also means that a lot of people end up being denied coverage because of pre-existing conditions and other factors.
