U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D., Ohio) criticized the House Republicans’ health-care bill during a Tuesday visit to Toledo, calling it especially dangerous to older Americans facing rising premiums and loss of coverage.

He told a crowd at the Margaret Hunt Senior Center in South Toledo that the American Health Care Act would hurt those who use Medicaid and Medicare, as well as the “pre-Medicare” population that is 50 to 64 years old.

“In Ohio premiums would increase hundreds of dollars,” he said. “Anyone with common sense knows that paying more and getting less is a bad deal. It’s particularly a bad deal for older Ohioans.”

The Congressional Budget Office’s score of the bill found insurance premiums would rise by an average of about 20 percent in 2018. An estimated 14 million more people would be uninsured in 2018 and 23 million more by 2026, according to the nonpartisan analysis released last week.
