COLUMBUS — Gov. Ted Strickland on Tuesday announced a deal to turn 500 acres of reclaimed strip mine land into one of the nation’s largest solar farms, open two solar component manufacturing plants in Ohio, and generate enough electricity from the sun to power 25,000 homes.

Two companies based in Spain — Isofoton and Prius Energy — committed to opening plants in Ohio that will build the panels and solar tracking devices that allow the panels to follow the sun as the earth rotates.

The manufacturing plants are expected to create 300 jobs while construction of the solar farm is expected to create 300 temporary jobs. Nearly 240,000 panels will be needed.
