The late Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones many have lived in Cleveland, but she had some strong Canton connections. Robert F. Fisher of Canton may have been one of Jones' biggest fans. The two were longtime friends who sat on a board for a Case Western Reserve University scholarship named in honor of Fisher's late brother, Michael.

"I considered her my congresswoman," Robert Fisher said. "She was a fantastic, caring person who was very savvy. She understood her role as a woman and as an African-American congresswoman. She could take her points of view and be very persuasive. She was very knowledgeable."

Fisher said he last saw Jones about a month ago, to raise funds for the Michael Fisher Scholarship Fund. Fisher said Jones and his brother became friends when they were law students at the university.
