AUSTINTOWN - U.S. Rep. Timothy J. Ryan in calling General Motor's bankruptcy filing ''devastating'' and ''monumental'' said there is a bright spot among the darkness: assurances from the automaker's top executives that Lordstown is key in turning around the auto giant.

''In the midst of this all garbage, there is a silver lining for this community,'' Ryan, D-Niles, said.

Meeting with the media on Monday just hours after GM filed for Chapter 11 protection in federal court, Ryan said that during a conversation two weeks ago with the carmaker's CEO Fritz Henderson, Henderson said the Lordstown complex remains a positive for auto executives.
