ZANESVILLE - After reaping the rewards of giving her time and talents to helping others in the community, Alexis Roll didn't think life could get any better - until she set foot in our nation's capital.
The local 14-year-old recently spent a few days in Washington, D.C., as a part of her recognition as Ohio's middle school winner of the 2008 Prudential Spirit of Community Award.
"It was amazing; I loved it," she said. "I'm happy I got to go."
The awards program, in its 13th year, honors middle and high school students for their outstanding volunteer efforts.
During the past seven years, Roll's long list of volunteer efforts includes the Salvation Army, Relay for Life, Christ's Table, and the Muskingum County Animal Shelter.
