LORAIN, Ohio — Lorain County Health & Dentistry will receive $6.6 million in federal funds so it can expand to serve thousands more people in need of low-cost health care.

The grant, announced Friday by Kathleen Sebelius, secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is one of 143 totaling $727 million that will go to community health centers across the country. It's the first of a series of awards to community health centers under the health-care reform bill.

Two other Ohio centers were awarded funds Friday: $6 million will go to the Rocking Horse Community Health Center in Springfield and $2.6 million to Family Healthcare Inc. in Chillicothe.
