LORAIN — The Lorain and Sheffield Village fire departments will each receive more than $70,000 from a national firefighters grants program.
The Lorain Fire Department has been awarded $72,000 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program. The money will be used to pay for emergency equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles and training.
“We have been fortunate through Sen. (Sherrod) Brown’s office and Congresswoman Betty Sutton to be successful in acquiring grants through different allocations of money through the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice,” Lorain Mayor Anthony Krasienko said. “We have gotten money for the police department and now this money for the fire department. I’m sure it will be put to good use.”
