The nutrition bill passed by the Senate Agriculture Committee on Wednesday expands the school lunch program.
Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown introduced a provision in the bill that ensures children will get nutritious meals during the summer.
“Only about one-sixth of children in the free and reduced lunch program, whether it’s in a city, a suburb, or a small town, or rural area, only about one-sixth of them are in a summer feeding program,” Brown said. “Those kids are eating as well in the summer and part of our bill is to help that.”
