WASHINGTON, D.C. -- U.S. Sens. George V. Voinovich and Sherrod Brown, formerly of Mansfield, made a bipartisan pitch Tuesday to Washington for federal funding in the wake of Hurricane Ike.
The Ohio senators requested the federal disaster relief package include funds for damage that occurred after high winds hit the state. Voinovich and Brown sent a letter Tuesday to the chairman and ranking member of the Senate Committee on Appropriations.
The Sept. 14 wind storm left about 2 million Ohio households and businesses without power and affected at least 84 of the state's 88 counties. At least 450 schools were closed, and the storm led to seven deaths in Ohio.
