CLEVELAND, Ohio -- While exports represent big business for Ohio, it's not big companies driving the lucrative trade. Small to medium-sized firms account for nearly 90 percent of Ohio's exports, which have risen to record levels.
U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman, the top U.S. trade ambassador, made that point Thursday while on a visit to a Cleveland-area company with 32 employees and customers in 33 nations.
Froman joined U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown at Jet Inc., a maker of wastewater treatment systems, located in an industrial park in Highland Heights. The national leaders came to showcase a typical Ohio exporter and to find out what more can be done to knock down trade barriers.
