U.S. Sen. George Voinovich, R-Ohio, had a personal comment for Karen Gillmor Thursday during his public remarks at Heidelberg College. Voinovich was commenting during the rededication ceremony designating the Tiffin Post Office as the Paul E. Gillmor Post Office building.
"Karen, I want to tell you what. I know I've got a friend in heaven," Voinovich said about Paul Gillmor, looking at Karen Gillmor seated about five feet away from the podium where he was speaking.
After the event, Voinovich added a brief comment about Paul Gillmor's personal faith.
"One demonstrates their faith by their actions," Voinovich said. "To my knowledge, Paul didn't talk about it, but he witnessed it every day. So that speaks a great deal of his faith, what it would have been to him. I know with the responsibilities that he had his faith continued to lift him up and to keep him going."
Voinovich was on a short list of speakers at the event. Other speakers included U.S. Rep. Bob Latta, R-Bowling Green. Latta gained the 5th District Congressional seat in a special election last fall. The seat was vacated by Gillmor at his death.
