WASHINGTON, D.C. - President Barack Obama on Tuesday announced the launch of two new manufacturing innovation institutes that will be headquartered in Detroit and Chicago and have Ohio participants.

"I don't want the next big job creating discovery to come from Germany, or China or Japan," said Obama. "I want it to be made here in America."

The Detroit consortium of businesses and universities will expand the use of lightweight, high-performing metals. The American Lightweight Materials Manufacturing Innovation Institute will be jointly led by Ohio State University, the University of Michigan and Columbus' Edison Welding Institute.
